4099 Instrument Microphone

This mic delivers pristine, natural and undistorted sound with exceptional isolation and off-axis rejection for any live or studio setting. Fitted with MicroLock® and a series of upgraded instrument clips, the 4099 CORE+ provides even better stability and flexibility on any type of instrument.

4099 Instrument Microphone

  • CORE+ technology
  • High SPL handling
  • Wide dynamic range
  • Supercardioid pick up pattern
  • Superior gain before feedback
  • MicroLock® connector
  • IP58 certified
  • Advanced, flexible clip program

This microphone comes in two versions:

4099 CORE+ Mic, Loud SPL (red marking on gooseneck) – used to close-mic most types of acoustical instruments. – From the harp to the drums and everything in between. With CORE+, this mic has a max SPL, peak before clipping of 145 dB.

4099 CORE+ Mic, Extreme SPL (yellow marking on gooseneck) – used to close-mic extremely loud instruments, such as drums and some brass (available in late 2025). Designed for use on drums, percussion instruments and other very loud instruments like, for example, the trumpet, this mic has a max SPL, peak before clipping of 152 dB.

You can buy a single 4099 alone or with a specific instrument clip, or you can choose a kit designed specifically for rock or classical applications. These kits come in 4-piece and 10-piece sets combined with the appropriate adapters, clips and cables that make it a breeze to set up your stage.

CORE+ captures an instrument’s true voice - picked up or amplified with DPA’s renowned authenticity. With CORE+ technology inside, the 4099 captures every nuance with pristine clarity, ensuring that the character of the instrument remains untouched, both on-axis and in the surrounding soundscape

Well-balanced isolation – from surrounding instruments due to the supercardioid polar pattern and linear off-axis response

Lightweight, discreet design – ensures that the 4099 blends seamlessly into performances

Superior microphone suspension – from enhanced shock mount and microphone body design. Improves isolation from instrument vibrations and stage noise, ensuring a cleaner signal and a more homogenous sound

One microphone, ∞ possibilities – upgraded, flexible clip program ensures a secure, reliable fit while treating your instrument with the utmost care. Effortless to attach and adjust, yet firm and reliable in hold, this one microphone model can beautifully reinforce an entire orchestra

Reliable MicroLock® connector – detachable cable and connection with a wide range of wireless systems

One microphone, ∞ possibilities

From the piano to guitar; strings to woodwinds; brass to percussion, the 4099 Series sounds equally impressive on them all. This one microphone model can beautifully reinforce an entire orchestra. You can move the mic to another instrument; just make sure you have the right type of clip to mount it correctly.

DPA’s versatile and practical instrument clip system has been a key selling point since the launch of the original 4099 in 2008. The principle of attaching the clip to the gooseneck has proven highly effective in both classical and rock applications, offering secure and flexible mounting solutions. And now, we have enhanced the clip system – improving not only the acoustic performance of the microphone but also the security, reliability and efficiency of the mounting process. These refinements make it easier to close-mic instruments and adjust capsule positioning for optimal performance.

The most significant update is the introduction of a new gooseneck locking mechanism: the Gooseneck Mount (G-MOUNT). By integrating this new locking principle, we have streamlined the mounting process, ensuring greater stability, ease of use and precision of mic placement for musicians and audio professionals alike.

What’s new in 4099 CORE+?

- CORE+ technology delivers tangible benefits to users with even greater clarity and authenticity in sound capture

- Significantly improved dynamic range (10 dB wider than with CORE) and a higher clipping point (3 dB higher than with CORE)

- MicroLock® connector adds enhanced reliability, so essential for live performances

- Improved shock mount for isolation of structure-borne noise for even greater clarity, without interference from external disturbances

- Revamped gooseneck mount enables intuitive, one-handed operation, improved stability and reliability, as well as enhanced vibration isolation

- Several upgraded clips and a new XLR-MOUNT

- Refined foam for wind protection and a less reflective gooseneck finish
