Germanium Drive | Chandler Limited

The Germanium Drive is really a germanium pedal like none you've used before. It has all the tone and color you would expect from a germanium but none of the mud and none of the fat - only an intense colored germanium tone.

True bypass, full bypass, or hardwire bypass. Whichever term you like!

Select the frequency response of the pedal here. This is at the beginning of the pedal circuit to keep the sound as focused as possible. Highs - Similar to old school treble boosters. Just the high frequency is boosted. Mids – A broader range treble boost adding in high mid range and just a touch of low mid range. Full – The widest range boost, covering the low mid and into the low frequency. We left out just enough of the lows to keep the sound tight. This is also a great setting for bass and keyboards.

Sets the overall brightness of the pedal. We found this useful when using amps of different sizes especially when combined with the boost range. Small bright combos can be fine tuned easily or a muddy stack brightened up with a throw of the toggle. Smooth, bright and very bright.

Selects the negative feedback of the circuit. Negative feedback will change the gain, frequency response, clipping, and harmonic distortion of the pedal. There are 5 Feedback settings. See the manual for the incredible effect these settings have on the tone.

This is the amount of gain you can select from the pedal. Depending on the feedback/bias setting you can get as much as 37DB of boost. The colored boost control is not linear in its sound. The pedal gets brighter as you boost more. You will find it important to use the boost range in conjunction with boost to tailor your sound to your needs.

Connects to the amplifier or other source such as computer input.

Accepts 9 to 9.6V power adaptors on the front. While the power uses + and – 9 Volts it is arranged to accept two standard 9 volt power adaptors. Simply plug in any two 9 volt power supplies and the pedal will take care of the work. We decided that this was a better solution than using expensive and custom power supplies. Likewise, with battery use, simply plug two standard 9 volts into the internal battery clips. One interesting option on the power is you can power the germ drive with a single 9-volt supply or battery. Doing so changes how the feedback and bias effect the pedal operation and in essence gives you another “bank” of the feedback settings on the fedback switch. The settings with less feedback (1-3) are more effected by this and become quite fuzzy.

Connects to guitar, bass or keyboard.

This pedal was inspired by our Germanium pre amps and our work with other germanium amplifiers, but has even more to it. The five feedback selections on the Germanium Drive modify the tone, harmonic distortion and clipping of the pedal and offer a nice range of uses from tighter, lightly driven to slightly fuzzy, to full on germanium hell!

BYPASS: True Bypass

I/O: 1/4"

POWER: two 9-volt “BOSS” style power supplies or two 9-volt batteries

NOTE ON POWER: Requires a power supply with isolated outputs, such as VooDoo Labs pedal power, or two 9 volt batteries; MXR DC Brick is non-isolated and is not compatible.
